NCCPG The
Guernsey Group of NCCPG was formed in 1987 and is affiliated to the National Council for the Conservation of Plants
and Gardens in the UK - now known as Plant Heritage. Our objectives are to protect the plant heritage
if the island by the establishment of plant collections, both historical and specialist. With active involvement
from members we maintain plants of local interest, such as nerines,a collection of camellias at Government
House, one of unusual summer flowering bulbs imported around 1897 and another of 19c. clematis. these
last two are to be found in Candie Gardens , St Peter Port. We also arrange lectures, garden visits and hold plant
sales with a special emphasis on more unusual and tender plants.

The Guernsey Botanical Trust The trust was formed in 2006 with its initial purpose the restoration
Saumarez Park's Victorian walled garden as a charitable and voluntary project. The garden had been part of
the de Saumarez family's private estate, which was acquired by the States of Guernsey following the death of the fourth
Lord de Saumarez in 1937. While the park itself has been substantially used for public purposes, the walled garden fell into
a state of disuse and disrepair over the years.
Volunteer Gardeners work in the Garden on Saturday mornings and
Wednesday afternoons, preparing, sowing, weeding and cropping the vegetable and flower beds. It is hoped to expand this activity
during 2010.
